LAURA K.O. SMITH, MI’20 (ARG)
Laura joined The Explorers Club in 2020. She explores the Southern Ocean by boat, with her first trip to Antarctica on a sailboat her husband Federico built. Her encounters with the Southern Continent have led her to maximize ways that scientists can get data to protect this special place. She works hard as part of the Polar Citizen Science Collective to use the power of citizen science to collect real data about the polar regions.
On her own vessels, in addition to supporting citizen science, she and her husband Federico have supported scientific and archeological expeditions to South Georgia, Isla de los Estados, Antarctica and the Chilean Fjords. She is happiest joining right in with the expeditions in these remote locations.
